GREAT PLAINS APPOINTS NEW ASSOCIATE PUBLISHER
WINNIPEG, Dec. 14, 2011 – Great Plains Publications, along with its imprints Enfield & Wizenty and Great Plains Teen Fiction, has named Maurice Mierau as its new associate publisher. Mierau will continue to act as editor of Enfield & Wizenty, as well as editor of the online magazine The Winnipeg Review, but will expand his responsibilities to include the day-to-day running of the entire company.
Publisher Gregg Shilliday made the announcement today. “Next month, we begin our 20th year of operations. This seemed like a good time to put a younger person at the helm to guide us through the technological and editorial opportunities of this new era of publishing.” Shilliday and his wife Ingeborg Boyens will continue to own the company but will reduce their input into daily operations.
Mierau, an author and prize-winning poet as well as editor, has been with Great Plains for four years. He says he is looking forward to the challenge of running a general trade publishing house. “I’ve spent my whole life immersed in book culture as a reader, and so being immersed in the business of book publishing seems like a natural step to me.”
